"Spiralize" is the third installment in a motivational series of short videos I am releasing on this channel before the New Year.  This video project is an experimental motion graphics animation created using the Max Creation Graph (MCG) modifiers, Maxscript,  and standard polygon objects in 3dsMax 2017.  There were no particle effects used in the production of this animation. All motion effects were created using keyframe animated modifiers, Superflow maxscript, and MCG tools within 3dsMax.  Rendering was accomplished using the default ART Render engine in 3dsMax 2017. Video post and compositing work done in After Effects. Hope you enjoy!

This kit consists of 16 unique, low poly crown splash models (subdivision-ready), which I've created over time to stand in for complex fluid simulation splash effects in still images. Based on my last tutorial for 3dsMax, in this video, we recreate the techniques and strategies to model an Interlocked Star Nest in Blender 2.77. The result is a twisted star ball sculpture which could be translated into an interesting design element, or exported as STL for 3d printing with SLA or SLS technology. In this tutorial, we explore the creation of interwoven knot symmetry from a Platonic solid (in this case a Dodecahedron), using simple topological modeling tools in 3dsMax 2017. The result is a twisted star-ball, suitable for 3d Printing with SLA or SLS. The techniques used in this video are general and universal and can be translated to other modeling packages of comparable capacity.

Hi, everyone.  I've created a new channel trailer for my Youtube channel, and thought I'd share the results here.  Most of it is just footage from some of my previous tutorials, but there's also some new turntable renders of models, and some footage from tutorials I haven't released yet.  The opening logo sequence was animated and rendered in 3dsMax, and the final footage was composited and edited with Sony Vegas.  Hope you enjoy.

In this tutorial, we create an Orderly Tangle of four interlocked, equilateral triangles for 3d printing or render element. If you haven't watched the previous Orderly Tangle tutorial, please go back on my channel and watch that one first. The symmetrical arrangement of these triangles fit together to create a tight bond between each element, and will 3d print as one fused object.  The techniques used here could translate to other modeling packages.

In this tutorial, we create an Orderly Tangle of hollow squares for 3d Printing or digital design. The symmetrical arrangement of these interlocked squares fit together tightly and will be fused together to create a single object in most 3d prints.


In this video, we revisit the creation of the Merkaba (Stellated Octahedron) shape first presented in a previous tutorial on my channel (see link below).  In this video, I'll show you an alternate modeling technique to achieve the same object, which eliminates at least 2 or 3 steps. This new technique uses standard polygonal modeling techniques, and  It's a much faster method.  Hope you enjoy.

Hi, everyone!  I thought I'd share some new photos of the Vortex Pendant III jewelry design with you.  These photos were kindly submitted by Alexandre Delamarre.  Alexandre ordered the Vortex III pendant in 14kgold plated, and Polished Silver.  The final products he received through Shapeways are showcased below:





Each piece is first 3d printed in wax from which a plaster mould is made for casting.  Once cast, the object then undergoes a careful polishing process by hand, which can destroy the manufactured piece if not done with extreme care and precision. The final product, however, is a beautiful and shiny piece of jewelry in any of the available precious metal materials.  Hope you like them.



This is the overall redesign modification of the Vortex Pendant (Small) for 3d printing in precious metal. I feel this updated, reinforced design is much more robust and aesthetically pleasing than the previous versions, and should hold up to the casting and plating process in 14k or 18k gold and other precious metals. It's currently in Beta release, but I expect that to change soon with our first consumer print.  In keeping with the Sacred Geometry theme, careful welding, and structural reinforcement were done at every intersection of the "regular pentagonal" points along the Golden Ratio of the spiral.  Also, the jump ring attachment on this version is larger to accommodate a much wider range of necklace thicknesses.   The base model was created in 3dsmax, then the object was refined and welded as a voxel model in 3d Coat.  Hope you enjoy.

** Edited 4/22/2016 In this tutorial, I'll demonstrate how to create an abstract, twisted starball which could be later exported as .STL file for 3d printing at Shapeways, or some other SLS 3d printing service. We will use only standard polygonal modeling tools available in all versions of 3dsmax 2010 or higher. No plugins or addons required.

Hi everyone. I just wanted to announce a new 3d pendant design I have up on my Shapeways shop, the Chain Link Pendant. This design was crafted from scratch in 3dsmax, and finalized for 3d printing in 3dCoat. The original design underwent many changes and modifications to fit what I had envisioned for the piece. It's available in a large variety of materials and colors, inspired by some works I'd seen in the Steampunk culture, and mixed with my own tastes, including impressions of Sacred Geometry and nature. Hi, everyone. Spent the better part of the day today finishing off this model of a Eames Lounge Chair. I know there are quite a few of these available out there, but I went a few extra miles on this one and modeled in all of the cushion seams and button folds instead of baking that into maps. This was a special model that I created as a promise to a friend of mine on DA, fastbike1. Fastbike1 (aka Larry) was kind enough to give me a 12 month membership as a gift, and this was the least I could do to repay him, as well as the community here who have been super supportive for a long time now.

I will offer this model for free only here at my DA website, and on Renderosity Freestuff. The only thing left to do now is texture the model. The modeling was done in 3dsmax, and I'll unwrap it and texture it with 3dCoat. About 80k polys total (99% quads). I'll probably reduce this count before I unwrap. I believe there's room to get it down to maybe 50K. Hope you guys like it so far. Here's the wireframes and a clay render:







I'll post some textured shots before releasing the model in a day or so. Thanks!
In this exercise, we model a topological knot object for 3d printing in 3dsmax. Using simple subdivision polygon modeling techniques and standard tools, we explore a high genus model with curved handles very much like the topologic mesh concepts created in Topmod. We will model using real world scale, for export later to a format which can be uploaded and printed at a service like Shapeways, or just about any 3d printer.

In this quick tutorial, we model what is known as a Sacred Merkaba for 3d printing or digital asset design.  Symbolic of ancient spirituality and mysticism, this shape has been part of religious iconography for thousands of years.  Geometers and mathematicians recognize it as a Stellated Octahedron, or Star Tetrahedron.  I'm using 3dsmax for this example, but the techniques can be translated easily to any capable polygonal modeling package.
