Modeled in 3dsmax. Rendered in LuxRender (v1.0RC3).
The main shape here is made possible with the help of the Megabevel modifier plugin, and the Graphite modeling tools in 3dsmax. I also used Mathsurf 2 for the other shape beneath it. I'm sure everyone knows by now how to do the Voronoi cell topology, so I won't bother explaining how I did that.
Your right. It's not a monkey saddle. And the other one isn't either. If you're referring to Twistway, I said that it began as a monkey saddle shape, but it actually started as an inverted boy's surface before all the modifications. As for this one (underneath), you got me on that now. I'll have to change the description, because you're correct, it's not a monkey saddle. I just looked at the source file, and unfortunately, I've collapsed the stack for the object, and can't find the Mathsurf surface I used there again right now. However, it could have been a modified Enneper Cartesian?
You don't need to change the description: I don't think you ever claimed it was monkey saddle, it was just me making a reference back to Twistway (as you rightly deduced). Just a bad joke from me I'm afraid!
You're using a wonderful variety of surfaces and curves and it's great to read about them (let alone see them rendered so beautifully). It's like discovering something new with each render.
Haha. I know, I totally misread the post, and thought I typed something incorrectly. It wasn't until I re-read your post several times did I catch on to what you meant. hahahaha. I'm embarrassed at myself for that. It wasn't a bad joke, I just need to read things closer sometimes. Sorry bout that.
