Modeled in 3dsMax, rendered in LuxRender (v1.0).

Began as a Hopf Fibered Linked Tori, created directly in 3dsmax using Mathsurf 2.0, a plugin for 3dsmax which "uses the abilities of Maxscript to discover mathematical geometries from an aesthetic aspect". I'm no jeweler, but I know a few who are excellent modelers (mainly using Rhino), and immediately thought of them when the inspiration to transform this into a locket hit me. ;) The background is a ground plane, with "smoothstar" topology, with some extrusion and insetting applied to the N-gons.

haha, "complex simplicity" immediately caught my eye when reading it... :D
my first thought of your picture was "eschesque" and i thought that was the reason you made the background like that... :D

What an intriguing background ... complex simplicity that makes the mind reel. And the locket. The locket is attractively, stunningly organic in my estimation. Well done! :)

Good observations! Thank you for being that detailed. I really appreciate it. I love the term "complex simplicity". I always felt that about sums up the majority of what I model, and you've really made my day by catching that. I also find it interesting you think of the locket as organic. Although it's certainly not a "physically" organic object by nature, I really intended it to represent an emotion; more than just a static object, the semblance of which is attractive, but does nothing emotively. So thank you! :)

Nice trefoil knot! Is the polygon pattern on the floor periodic?

Thank you. Yes, I suppose the floor tiling would be considered periodic, with quasi-regular tessellation? Your opinion on that? I only know this pattern as a mesh topology called Smoothstar, which I applied to a regular quad plane mesh, then extruded by edge. The colors were assigned to polygons based on the number of sides of the poly.

Great great work. Especially because its not typical work done in 3ds Max.
