Description

Modeled in 3dsMax, rendered in Octane Render.

Created with Helix Pro plugin by Joker Martini. The main math object in this scene is intended to look like a 3D printed sculpture that is made from some kind of clear, shiny plastic polymer. This one really pushed the engine, and my graphics card, to extremes. Rendered with the PMC kernel, to 50,000 samples, with a deep exploration strength to penetrate the very tiny areas of the latticework surface. There's still a little grain in areas where reflections and refractions meet dof, but overall it came out extremely well. The size of the texture on the chinese paper alone, for example, was huge (4000x4000), and contains a fairly large normal and bump map. Just for kicks, I tried this scene in Luxrender, and it crashed it continuously when calculating the first few samples. So I'm happy Octane even handled it to this extent, using stong DOF, and complex internal refractions on the material, with color dispersion. There's even some pretty caustics effect on the shadows that was a nice surprise. :)

Wow. Truly amazing. Imagine modeling something like that by hand...Nuu
