Polyhedral Melange: The Study by LuxXeon Polyhedral Melange: The Study by LuxXeon
Modeled in 3dsmax, rendered in Luxrender v1.0

This image is the first in a series of renders I will upload consecutively in the next couple days, which will feature polyhedral shapes incorporated into realistically modeled and rendered environments. The objective of this render series is simply an attempt to explore polyhedron in an appreciative and, hopefully, aesthetically pleasing way. Hope you like the results.

looks a bit like a very twisted version of the rubiks cube :D
did you model the entire thing from scratch?

Thank you.  Yes, the math model was created from scratch in 3dsmax, using some modifiers on a polyhedral primitive object.  This scene was created some time ago, so I forget the exact techniques used here, but there was very little in the way of hand-modeling done here, as most of the work was achieved with modifiers.

Everything blends in perfectly ! The polyhedron no doubt fits in greatly with the environment ,Maybe these models should be made IRL for display :)

I really like this one in particular. I'm not exactly sure why. You know, you might see how these shapes work as something that refracts light or casts colored shadows. I think that would look lovely.

Yes, I'm working on another one right now that is a tetrahedron, and the shapes associated with tetra are perfect for a prism. Good idea.
