Free 3D Model: Starfish Floor Lamp by LuxXeon Free 3D Model: Starfish Floor Lamp by LuxXeon
Decorate and "light" your 3d scenes with this modern, stylish floor lamp prop.  Consisting of 100% 4-sided (quad) polygons for easy modification or subdivision, this detailed 3D model consists of 34,408 polygons, and 35,015 vertices. There are no texture maps necessary, but all elements of this model have been carefully UV unwrapped, and can easily accept any material or seamless texture you wish to use.

All example renders were done in the Corona render engine for 3dsmax

You are free to use or modify this model as you see fit, for your own rendering projects or scenes. As with all my freebies, the object can be used for both commercial and non-commercial renders. You may NOT, however, resell or redistribute the model or textures, or any derivative of them; individually, or as part of a package/set.

The 3dsmax file is compatible with 3dsmax 2012 or higher.  The modifier stack has been collapsed for compatibility.

Alternatively, you can also download this model from the following resource websites, including more preivew renders and wireframes:

Turbosquid.com
ShareCG.com

*** OBJ IMPORT INSTRUCTIONS: There are 3 different OBJ files associated with this model, and one MTL file, which defines the material definitions.  You will notice that two of the three OBJ files are labeled for use in specific software applications (Poser and Blender).  For best results, it's highly recommended that you import the correct file to the corresponding software application.

Thanks so much, Nic.  I intend on making a video tutorial illustrating how to achieve the interlinked star geometry.  It will be for 3dsmax, but might be of interest to anyone with a passion for mathematical geometry, like yourself.

If this was a real lamp, I'd buy it! Seriously, this looks like something you could find in a store! Awesome work!

Thank you!  It probably would be considered expensive, if it were real.  However, with 3d printing, shades like this could be manufactured at lower costs than ever before, so it might be something you'd find in an average department store.  ;) (Wink)

true that , i guess expensive is also relative but i consider lamps to be among the most expensive things you can buy for your house anyhow . i guess if the lamp was real it would be ( at least ) 50-60 bucks even if it were made with cheap materials based on the design alone .

You keep coming up with deceptively simple, modernistic designs.  You need to get in touch with a furniture manufacturer to see about getting some of them produced in reality.

You're most welcome.  BTW, my enthusiasm for doing renders is on the wane, however, I'd love to incorporate one of your fantastic creations.  :)

Thank you!  The overall lamp is of my own design.  However, the interlinked starfish lampshade is based on a technique which has been illustrated before in many modeling applications, as an exercise in modeling high-genus mathematical shapes.  I'm going to release a tutorial, showing how I made the shape in my native modeling package, later today.

Thanks, Micheuss!  I'm going to upload a tutorial video on how the starfish part was created.  I know there's a lot of tutorials out there for it in Topmod and other applications, but it might be the first one showing how to do it in 3dsmax.
