Free 3D Model: Crystal Ball by LuxXeon Free 3D Model: Crystal Ball by LuxXeon
Every evil Witch or Warlock's favorite toy; a crystal ball, with demonic claw holder.  This detailed 3D model consists of 51,504 quad polygons, and 51,502 vertices. The object is UV Unwrapped, and comes complete with all the necessary texture maps for color (diffuse), specular (reflection), glossy (blurry reflection), and bump channels at 2048x2048 pixel resolution.  There is also a special tangent normal map included for added render detail and realism.  The ball sub-object should be capable of accepting any seamless procedural material you assign to it (glass, crystal, diamond, etc.,).

*If your render software supports it, I STRONGLY recommend using the normal map instead of the bump map for optimum detail in your renders.

You are free to use or modify this model as you see fit, for your own rendering projects or scenes. As with all my freebies, the object can be used for both commercial and non-commercial renders. You may NOT, however, resell or redistribute the model or textures, or any derivative of them; individually, or as part of a package/set.

Alternatively, you can also find and download this model from the following resource locations, including additional renders and wire-frame previews:
ShareCG.com
Turbosquid.com

*** OBJ IMPORT INSTRUCTIONS: There are 3 different OBJ files associated with this model, and one MTL file, which defines the texture placement.  You will notice that two of the three OBJ files are labeled for use in specific software applications (Poser and Blender).  For best results, it's highly recommended that you import the correct file to the corresponding software application.

The realism. So nostalgic childhood his work reminded me of creatures and characters that populated my childhood. In stories full of gypsies and witches who used crystal balls to see who dared get in their fields. :D

Sorry to disturb you sir,

Please can I have back drop OBJ with cloth and material, like you have used here. I use poser 2014 and Daz Studio.

Thank you

You're very welcome!
I am bound to use this crystal ball at some stage, as my images are based in fantasy.
And I hope to be able to learn how it was put together, with the modelling and the
texturing to aid in my own learning of modelling. Thanks again!

Awesome.
I was wondering if you knew the whats and the whys of the difference in how blender and poser import OBJ's.

LuxXeon Featured By Owner Oct 15, 2014  Professional Digital Artist
I don't own Poser, so my experience with it is from feedback and research.  However, I've been hands on with Blender for some time.  The difference is specifically in the native scaling of imported objects.  Poser seems to use a very tiny default unit scale system, so exporting an object as OBJ for use in Poser requires some of the smallest unit conversions I've seen in any package.  Where a scale factor of 1.0 is a 1:1 unit conversion, I typically use a scale conversion factor of 0.01 for Poser; compared to Blender, for which I'll use 0.1.  I usually model in real world dimensions, using either Feet with decimal inches, or inches.  When I test the objects in Blender, they import as intended, or at least at the size they were modeled in my native package, and I've tested the Poser settings with a software called Daz Studio, and the results are likewise acceptable there.

This is a wonderful Crystal Ball creation! I just used it in a scene I did with the Reality plugin for DAZ Studio then rendered it in LuxRender. Thank you!! :-)

The demonic claw holder is really neat! It has six fold symmetry?
Reply
:iconluxxeon:
LuxXeon Featured By Owner Oct 10, 2014  Professional Digital Artist
Thank you!  Yes, it's created as a hexagonal rotational symmetric object.  The finger (claw) domains, however, were modified after the application of symmetry, to incorporate asymmetric surface details for aesthetic reasons, and realism.

not in no hurry, just building a scene that took place in youth.  Besides the new poser is giving me a complete head ache, crashing everytime turn around and now lost the drive that had all my models on.  So as said, no hurry
