Antique Street Lamp by LuxXeon Antique Street Lamp by LuxXeon
Modeled in 3dsmax.

This detailed, antique street lamp is available as a native 3dsmax 2012 scene file (.max), and also in several scaled .obj formats, for importing easily into other applications, like Blender, Poser, or Daz|Studio. This model comes complete with high detail texture maps for every necessary material channel, for the most control over your resulting render. There is a custom diffuse (color), bump, and specular map for each part, and also an additional glossiness map to control reflections on the metal parts, and an illumination control map for the glass parts, if you wish to use it. I have also included the UV template maps for the banner and glass parts of the model, in case you wanted to create your own custom textures for those parts in an image editor. The model consists of 30,160 polygons, ALL quads, and 30,397 verts. Each texture map is provided in maximum quality JPG format, with resolution of 2048x2048 pixels, and is suitable for extremely close-up rendering. The UV's were carefully unwrapped to minimize distortion, and all parts of the model could easily accept custom procedural textures or materials.

You are free to use or modify this model as you see fit for your own projects or scenes; it's great as a decorative outdoor lighting prop, but can also fit into a great many variety of scenes. The only limit is your imagination. As with all my freebies, this model can be used for both commercial and non commercial renders. You may not, however, resell these objects, or any derivative of them; individually, or as part of a package/set.

Optionally, you can also download this model from the following resource locations:

Turbosquid.com
ShareCG.com

As always, enjoy the model, and please contact me if you have any questions about how to integrate this model into your renders. I'm also available if you need any help setting up the extra textures that are included with this model in your rendering application.

very well done, love the textures too... i would rotate one of the lamps so they dont look exactly duplicated... rotating it would offset the textures mirrored look.

Hi.  Sorry it took so long to respond, but I agree with you.  I overlooked the duplicated textures, and some day I'd really like to fix that issue with this model.  Thanks for the feedback.  I appreciate it.

Oh, that's so lovely!  I'm especially inspired by the material/texture.  I'm sort of in the middle of working on a corroded metal material, and it's a good example of the kind of material I'll be going for.  The flourishes on the branches are especially elegant.

When you say it comes with an illumination map, does that mean you didn't light a bulb or a filament inside the glass?  I'm asking just because I'm always curious about that.  One day, I want to work with lights like the ones in the meditation room in the latest Tron.  I always wonder if it's best to do that with textures or to go more towards actual light behavior.

Thanks.  This particular model doesn't have any interior bulbs behind the glass parts.  My last free lamp model, Screw Lamp, contained a semi-detailed bulb, which could be loaded optionally, but I didn't do it for this one. I noticed that most people using the object to actually light their scenes simply ended up removing or replacing the bulb with a much simpler stand-in mesh, or scene light.  The preview render of this lamp, where I have it lit, is simply using a self-illuminated material, with the "illumination" mask I provided, so the dirty parts are blocked out of the lit parts.

Do you find that more effective in general?  Or do you find it's more realistic to work with a bulb or filament?

Depends on the purpose.  If  I were doing a scene, for example, where the important factor of realism were a room lit by a lamp of a certain wattage, I'd probably just put a scene light inside the lamp object, and use IES file to create the correct lighting (assuming the scene is modeled to scale).  The only reason to use a real modeled bulb would be if the light wasn't actually going to be lit, and the scene called for a shot where the inside of the light would be visible.  Of course, there's a purpose for anything, but it all depends.  99% of the time, a fully modeled bulb for a lamp won't be necessary.

Seriuosly, great modelling!  How you can model everything so perfect in quad polys is just amazing..  That's crazy that you don't have even one triangle in this one!  Super duper textures too.  Love it.  If you ever have time, it would be awesome if you could do a quick tutorial on how you make those very intricate geometry like those arm things holding the lights.  Things like that i have absolutely no clue how to even start to model.  I'm sure it's not easy.

Let me know how u do.  Can't wait to see what you come up with.  I've provided a ton of control maps for this one, but you could also create your own from the UV templates, or use procedural if you rather a cleaner look of course.

I did a test before bed last night using a copper freshnal file and custom normal map, think I will pursue this but cant render anything as I have a major render in progress for a competition.
