A Framework Blossom

Description

Modeled in 3dsMax, rendered in LuxRender (v1.0).

This was modeled almost entirely using the awesome maxscript plugin, Super Poly Bridge v1.4, from what started as a hydra primitive. Then the polygons were inset, and removed to create the "framework" appearance. Took about 2.5 hrs to model (including some errors that set me back 10 minutes here and there), then exported to Luxrender and rendered with HDRI environment. FUN scene to create. I know the surface looks a bit plain, but it's intentional. I wanted an almost clay-like material, with a subtle hint of subsurface scattering, and glaze on top. Almost like a resin-clay mold. Think it comes kinda close to that appearance. :) The title is meant as a play on words, from "A Clockwork Orange". hehe.

10/02/2012 - Updated the image. I rendered it again, with more samples, to clear up some of the grain caused by the DOF. This version is 8,000 S/px. Previously, it was 4000 S/px. Cleared most of the noise up nicely. ;)

really beautiful... reminds me of an episode of "Through The Wormhole" where they have discovered this pattern as related to black holes orbiting each other... I find these patterns fascinating... real "flower of life" stuff...
